The good flesh continuing

Mostly I have had running through my consciousness and subconscious a couple of lines from "Meditation at Lagunitas," by Robert Hass.  I first read this poem and Praise in 1985, and throughout my life since, lines from it rise to the surface from time to time.

There are moments when the body is as numinous
as words, days that are the good flesh continuing.

This vacillation between the spirit and the flesh is what it feels like right now, watching Robert's illness.  Days when the limitations of his body do not matter; days when his body perseveres.
