Labor

My pregnant sister-in-law is going into the hospital to be induced tomorrow morning. She has had an (understandable) trepidation of labor, and her body has certainly been unwilling to get the process rolling on its own.

Labor was not my favorite activity, either, and I was thinking about how wonderful it would be if, as in Star Trek, the baby could simply be "beamed" out of your body. Why aren't scientists working on this?

Of course, there was the awful episode of Star Trek in which the transporter was sabotaged or just broke down and some woman Kirk was in love with was turned into a foam block that broke apart in his hands, while William Shatner did some of the best overacting of his career.
