This is Robert at his birthday party a few weeks ago. There's another picture I'll find of him in a minute. I think my thumb was slightly over the camera lens in this picture. There they both are.

The more I write, the more I think that poems and children are similar in many ways--at what point is either finished? Hard to say. I think of Robert mostly as a work in progress. Edith is a study in formalism because of her functionality: she has discernible rhythms, perceptible oppositions, a slightly predictable course (or, at least, one senses in her an innate direction). Robert is an open structure--plastic, unpredictable, with the hint of strangeness that is an open door to discovery.
